The Three Aspects of True Freedom

Eckhart Tolle states, “Nonresistance, nonjudgment, and nonattachment are the three aspects of true freedom and enlightened living.”

I am a big fan of Eckhart and I was a student of his 2023 School of Enlightenment.

Recently, I have been digging into the work of another master of our times — Micheal Alan Singer. I listened to his audiobooks and also the Sounds True course: Living from a Place of Surrender.

I have been on a mission to become a spiritual adept since 2009. Up to that point I was quite heavily involved in Christian Mysticism. But my journey took a more ‘purely spiritual’ turn in 2009.

Yet, it feels like for almost 16 years I have missed the point. I am now committing to surrender. I am committing to finding out what it means to truly live from a place of nonjudgment, nonattachment, and nonresistance.

I read Tolle’s words for the first time in 2009, but they did not land. Not truly. I guess that is how the spiritual journey works… You go round and round, and get a little closer to ultimate reality with every detour.

Writing

For a long time I have also felt drawn to writing. It started in 2003 or 2004. I have taken on many writing projects in the years since, but resistance got the better of me on each of those attempts. Maybe, as Steven Pressfield teaches, I was still busy with my Hero’s Journey and my Artist’s Journey had not yet begun.

Who knows. Or maybe I just got my ass kicked by resistance.

Either way, here I am. Today is the second last day of 2025, and I am recommitting to a new regular writing practice. I will most likely not get many readers here, but that is not the point. I am writing for the sake of writing. I have a right to the labour, not the fruit of the labour as the Bhagavad Gita teaches.

If you do find yourself here, welcome. And I hope my writings on the power of surrender helps you find and stay on the ultimate path.
